On the right is a pilotage video of the approaches to the Charente, the river that leads up to Rochefort. The charts were prepared using C-Map PC Planner,combined with pilotage diagrams from Malcolm Robson’s French Pilot, sadly now out of print. Note: This clip has a commentary so ensure sound is switched on.

If I were doing it again, I would use Software on Board to prepare the chart, and might have an actual track to display.as shown in the lower video. This was the case during our 2010 cruise to Cordouan. It can be seen right at the end the Part 1 Video, “So phare, so Good”

Another approach requires good track information, such as that available from Software in Board. This is illustrated by our transit of the Portsall passage, also shown on the right.
